Testimonial Tuesday: Mandelic Acid 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser

It’s “Testimonial Tuesday”!

This week’s featured testimonial features one of our top-selling items Mandelic Acid 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser and comes to us through a product review recently posted on our website:

“I am a medical professional and I thought I knew how to treat acne...until I developed adult acne of my own. I have been to dermatologist and been on many treatments including Retin-A and antibiotics. The Mandelic Acid products including the Exfoliating Cleanser improved my cystic acne amazingly in just one week! I am so excited to see what the next few weeks will bring because at this rate I'll be completely clear in less than 1 month.”

Vendor Profile: Alana Mitchell from Skincare by Alana

Vivant Skin Care recently chatted with Alana Mitchell, founder and owner of our valued Orange County, CA partners Skincare by Alana and Spa Alana about skin care, her businesses and how she got her start in the industry. Here’s a recap of our conversation:

1.       How did you get your start in the skin care industry?

You could say I "grew up" in the beauty and skin care industry. My parents have owned beauty supplies, haircut salons and day spas for over 40 years. When I was a child, my day care consisted of hanging around our family businesses and helping out. It started at an early age. It may sound kind of cruel, but believe me, I developed my ecstatic obsession with skin care products at an early age as a result of this upbringing. I loved this sort of environment when I was a child, and I started learning about the industry at a very early age.

2.       What is the most important aspect of your business?

Customers service, bottom line. The reason why my online skincare business thrives in a looming economy and with so many competitors popping up is because I emphasize personalized customer service. I have live estheticians answer the phones and live chat where customers can get real help with their skin. Other websites discourage personal interaction, where skincarebyalana.com encourages it!

3.       How would you like for your customers to perceive your brand image?

I think my customers perceive Skincare by Alana as a place where they can easily get help purchasing the latest and greatest beauty products, and where they can keep up to date on the latest beauty and skincare trends. I have had many customers tell me they consider me their "online day spa” – what an honor!

4.       How important is social media to your business model and why?

Social Media is a necessary part of Skincare by Alana's marketing plan, but I am careful not to overemphasize it. We have an active Facebook page, Twitter account, YouTube page and so on and they are all getting quite popular. I have mostly utilized these accounts not to pursue new customers as much, but rather to make my website more personalized for current customers. Most of my products and vendor pages feature videos I have created to assist my customers and answer frequently asked questions.

 5.       Where do you see Skincare by Alana / Spa Alana in five years?

I was honored when Spa Alana (my on site day spa) reached the point in 2012 when we were no longer accepting new clients. Meaning, we were forced to consider it a "private day spa" due to the overwhelming amount of clients that were requesting to make an appointment. I never expected this, so I am not sure what direction to take it in! However, it has been quite humbling to take on some celebrity clientele lately. I want to make my celebrity clientele a little more of an emphasis in future years, as I feel it really helps the popularity of my website when I announce certain celebrity endorsements. Skincare by Alana in the next five years is going to get even more exciting. My goal is to push the envelopes of how skin care products are sold online. In 2013 we will be testing our new live video chat feature, which allows users to receive a free live skin consultation straight from their computer webcam. I have a hard time thinking five years ahead, but by then, I hope to be doing the exact same thing I am doing right now, helping people conquer their skin care problems.

 6.       Your thoughts on the Vivant Skin Care line / team?

The Vivant Skincare line and team have both exceeded my expectations. As you can see from my website skincarebyalana.com, I carry hundreds of skin care product lines. Meaning, I deal with a lot of companies. The great thing about Vivant, the products are almost always repurchased.  From my experience, this means the products REALLY work. As a retailer, this gives me the freedom to sell them with confidence. The 8% Mandelic Acid 3-in-1 Serum in particular is a favorite Vivant product of mine. The Vivant team is also really great. I feel like they are such a good match with our team, because we share a lot of the same marketing ideals and customer service values. I really enjoy working with Vivant Skin care.

7.       What do you like to do in your spare time away from your profession?

I love the spare time questions! What do I do in my spare time? I hang with my three year old boy and my husband. We live in beautiful Dana Point, CA, so there is always something to do like going to the beach, painting, shopping, etc. I am also really involved in my local church, and my husband and I are involved in a lot of local charity work. This is going to sound kind of weird, but in my spare time I love trying new beauty products and concepts. I guess it’s a hobby, as well as my profession!

Testimonial Tuesday >> Green Tea Antioxidant Cleanser

It's Testimonial Tuesday! This week's featured review comes from Claudia Mancini, a blogger from Selci, Italy. She details her experience with our Green Tea Antioxidant Cleanser here: http://claudia-overtherainbow.blogspot.it/2012/10/clean-clean-clean.html  - enjoy!

Clean Clean Clean
Made with love by Claudia

I had the priviledge to try a new cleanser from VIVANT SKIN CARE. It's the Green Tea one (which personally I love). I had the smallest bottle but you can choose from three different sizes: 2oz, 8oz and 16oz at 11.00$, 29.50$ or 53.50$.

This cleanser is perfect for any kind of skin, also for the most delicate. The consistency is clean and super light. You need just a tiny bit of it to create a nice foam to wash your face (or body) with. The smell is lovely and delicate and you can totally recognize grape scent, which is one of the ingredient along with Green tea and honey. I have combination skin and a lot of times is really difficult to find product that are not too harsh or too moisturizing.

This is perfect 'cause is really delicate but at the same time it has an high cleansing power. I love to use it as a post-makeup cleansing. I personally think it's a great quality product.
If you're curious to try it I'll leave you the link to the site: http://vivantskincare.com/green-tea-antioxidant-cleanser

It's Testimonial Tuesday! Click on the link below to read about her experience with Vivant Skin Care products! Enjoy...

Review: Vivant Skincare

Acne-prone, blemish-prone, bad-skin-day-prone. I’m big on skincare, it’s probably more important to me than makeup. If it had better skin I wouldn’t need as much makeup right? So I jumped at the chance when the lovely people at Vivant Skin Care offered to send me some of their range to review.

Morning Routine

I love this stuff. As you know I’m a scrub-addict so this was perfect for me. BP (Benzoyl Peroxide) is a peeling agent, which helps clear pores and reduces skin bacteria. I love using this in the mornings as I feel like it really clears my skin of any sebum produced during sleep.

           3% Mandelic Acid 3-in-1 Toner*
Mandelic Acid is used as a more effective substitute for glycolic acid. Again, it has antibacterial properties to help kill the acne bacteria. It’s a clarifying toner that removes dirt and oil and helps with hyperpigmentation. I found this stuff a bit too strong. It smells like pure alcohol and I was worried that it may have been a bit too harsh for my skin. Admittedly, I didn’t react badly to it but I didn’t enjoy using it.

          Daily Treatment Lotion SPF15*

I’m a naughty beauty blogger – I don’t use SPF. I know, I’m bad. But I always feel like SPF moisturisers are too heavy for my oily skin and clog my pores. But this one is an absolute Godsend. Vivant are right, it’s super-light. It didn’t break me out or feel too heavy.

This serum is designed to protect against environmental damage whilst flushing out pores and improving pigmentation. Personally, I don’t see the use of this product. I forgot to use it on many occasions and found that it didn’t make any aesthetic difference to my skin whether.

Evening Routine

This can be used on the face and scalp for acne, dandruff and irritation. I didn’t use it on my scalp as I think it’d be too strong for my brittle hair but it’s a pretty decent face wash. I don’t love it as much as the exfoliating cleanser though. Sorry.
I love it when you can feel products working and this is amazing. It’s a clear gel that feels quite ‘slippery’, but dries with a vice-like grip. It makes your face feel really tight, but not in an unpleasant way. It’s an oil-free gel designed to hydrate your skin and calm it down. The tightness disperses after a while, and I found that I wasn’t as oily as usual in the mornings.
My verdict: The toner and serum were a bit of a miss for me. The toner was too strong and the serum was too – nothing, I guess. But I loved the rest of the range.

Did it work? Probably the most important question. At first the range broke me out. But they were small whiteheads so I think my skin was just purging itself. Aside from the initial breakout my skin really cleared up. BUT – there’s always a but, right? – Vivant has actually made me realise my ‘acne’ is hormonal. So whilst it was great at alleviating breakouts, it was pretty much powerless to stop them. Obviously that’s no fault of the products, Vivant, it’s not you, it’s me.

Would I repurchase? Toughie. Why? I’m a student and Vivant is hardly Asda Smart Price. The exfoliating wash is a bathroom staple for me now, so I’ll have to beg, steal and borrow to repurchase that. Skincare is important to me though so if my spots weren’t hormonal then I’d continue to purchase the whole range.

Vivant Skin Care is available to purchase from the Vivant website.

This Week's TGIF Skin Care Tip

Here is this week's Vivant Skin Care TGIF Skin Care Tip:

Don't pick - ice! The moment you feel a pimple developing, start icing the area. Do not push and pick or by Saturday night it will be red and swollen, just in time for your night out on the town.

[What to Do Wednesday] - Week of 09.12.12

Here’s a professional treatment directly from our lead formulating consultant Dr. James Fulton:

“September is a great month to start getting your skin ready for the fast-approaching holidays. You can do this with a series of three Vivant Pro Series peels.  Start off with the light 20% Glycolic Acid or 30% Mandelic Acid Pro Series peels. Two to four weeks later, move on to the modified Jessner Retinoid Combination Pro Series peel.  And then two to four weeks after that, get my favorite peel, the four-step Progressive ProPeel - a modified Jessner, TCA with the Retinoid Pro Series peel. After this series of peels your skin will glow for the holidays!”
